Did you know that there are professional paper organizers like myself? Most people don’t. Right now home organizing is a big, popular thing. So much so that Marie Kondo now has a best selling book and a television show about home organizing. But, no one is talking about paper organizing.
I think that there are a few reasons for this:
- First, we’re supposed to be a “paperless” society now so why would you need a professional paper organizer? But are we really paperless? I get mail every day, businesses get mail, have contracts, they receive checks for payments and the list goes on and on. Sure, a paperless society is a great plan but I don’t think we’re there yet.
- Second, it’s not as glamorous as organizing a messy closet and then showing the before and after pictures with everything in drawers, baskets, and containers. All the shoes on shelves and all the clothes hung in coordinating colors. When your paper is organized you don’t see it.
- Lastly, no one wants to admit it when they have stacks of papers they are hiding in drawers and cupboards. They don’t want to admit that they lost an invitation or notice in the stacks somewhere. It’s embarrassing to have to run out at the last minute to buy a gift for a shower that you totally forgot about because the invitation is buried somewhere.
Maybe paper organizing isn’t glamorous or popular but I believe it’s a necessity. Believe me, there can be paper hoarders too! Even though it’s not glamorous, you get the same satisfied feeling when all your paper is organized and filed so you know exactly where everything is and when it needs to be dealt with.
So, let Marie Kondo have her book and show, I’ll keep helping people organize their papers and set up systems to keep it that way which helps organize their life and gets rid of a major source of stress!
